article about Colombia

Postby rebeccad » Thu Nov 20, 2008 6:04 pm

Hi,
I'm a graduate student at Portland State University in Oregon and had a question about a project I'm working on. I'm planning a (hypothetical) study abroad program in Bogota, Colombia and am looking for articles or books or other sources of information on Colombia. If anyone knows of an article that would be a great introduction to Colombian culture for students who don't know much about it, I would love to hear your suggestions. It could also be a more general article about Latin American culture - it doesn't necessarily have to be about Colombia. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have!

Lots of great info on Colombia here http://www.lonelyplanet.com/colombia - their travel guide is also pretty good but the site has lots on it anyway.

The Kingdom of Cambodia known as Kampuchea is a country in South East Asia with a population of over 13 million people. The kingdom's capital and largest city is Phnom Penh. Cambodia is the descendant state of the once powerful Hindu and Buddhist Khmer Empire, which ruled most of the Indochinese Peninsula between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries.

A citizen of Cambodia is usually identified as "Cambodian" or "Khmer," though the latter strictly refers to tribal Khmers. Most Cambodians are Theravada Buddhists of Khmer extraction, but the country also has a substantial number of primarily Muslim Cham, as well as racial Chinese, Vietnamese and small animist hill tribes.
