Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador Reach Joint Trade Accord with Mexico

After years of negotiations, the Central American Northern Triangle Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador completed negotiations for a free-trade agreement with Mexico on May 11. The agreement will go into effect in January 2001 provided the legislatures of all four states ratify it. The Triangle states were unable to get their traditional exports included in the agreement, but expect an overall increase in exports and new jobs to come out of the pact.
