Cuba Restores Long-Distance Telephone Connections with U.S.

Cuba announced April 11 that it would re-establish telephone connections with the US that were cut in February 1999. In 1997, Miami Federal Court Judge James Lawrence King ordered Cuba to pay US$187.6 million in compensation to the families of the Hermanos al Rescate pilots killed in 1996 when Cuban military planes shot them down.
