Celvin Galindo, prosecutor in the Bishop Juan Gerardi murder case, resigned his position and sought political asylum in the US in early October. The resignation came as Galindo was proclaiming he was on the verge of solving the case. Meanwhile, suspect Mario Orantes, who was held in prison for several months, left the country. His dog, also a suspect, has died.
