Defying US pressure to keep Cuba isolated, Central American and Caribbean nations are showing increased independence by rapidly normalizing diplomatic and trade relations with Cuba. Most countries in the region broke ties with Cuba in the early 1960s, when US influence in Latin America was overwhelming.
