Privacy Statement
We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer our Web site. If you pay for an institutional subscription and supply us with the IP address for your institution's Internet domain, then we use the IP numbers so that our server recognizes users from your domain so that they can use the LADB services without a username/password. The LADB web site also logs IP addresses for systems administration purposes. IP addresses are logged to track a user's session. This gives us an idea of which parts of our site users are visiting. We do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable. This means that a users session will be tracked, but the user will be anonymous. When we do save personal information about a user (on an order form for instance) we do not save any information about which IP address they used.
LADB sometimes obtains grants that allow us to give away our services. In exchange for the free subscriptions our granting agencies ( non-profit organizations with no commercial interests) ask that we report on how our information is used for research and education purposes. For that reason we ask users to register for free subscriptions to LADB's archive and news bulletins and Economies of Latin America full-text economic journal archives. The information is only used to report on how the data is used and by what kind of institutions (e.g. high schools, university libraries) and with what geographical distribution.
Our site's registration form requires users to give us contact information (like their name and email address). This information is only used to communicate directly with the customer about services directly pertaining to this web site. We use this information when we send bills or ask if a customer wishes to renew a subscription. We would use this information if we needed to contact users about significant changes to our web site. We never send promotional mailings. We never share our user list with third parties. When we are required to collect information for grant-sponsored subscriptions, we only provide summary information, never specific client lists. The foundations never receive any information about individual LADB users.
Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below.
This site contains links to other sites. Latin America Data Base is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites.
Our site uses an order form for customers to request information, products, and services. We collect visitor's contact information (like their email address) and financial information (like their credit card numbers, if they opt to pay by credit card). It is possible to pay for LADB's services without using a credit card and providing financial information on our site. Contact information from the order form is used to send user information (orders to our customers. The customer's contact information is used to get in touch with the visitor when necessary (to bill for subscription renewals, or to provide information on changes in how to use our web site). Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below. Financial information that is collected is used to bill the user for products and services.
