Latin America Data Base Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how the Latin American and Iberian Institute ("LAII," "us" or "we"), a department of the University of New Mexico and publisher of the Latin America Data Base, will collect and use your personally identifiable information ("PII") (that is -- your full name, email address, mailing address, and telephone number) as well as data that can, under certain circumstances, indirectly lead to PII ("Related Data").

This Policy applies to PII and Related Data received by us from consumers who provide us with information in connection with their subscriptions to the Latin America Database.

From time to time, LAII may revise this Privacy Policy. If we make revisions that change the way we collect or use your PII or Related Data, those changes will be posted in this Privacy Policy; the effective date will be noted at the beginning of the Policy. Therefore, you should review this policy periodically and stay "up to date" in terms of current policies and practices.

Generally

When you subscribe to our products or services, we collect PII and Related Information from you; when you visit the LADB web site, we automatically collect "non-PII" such as IP addresses and web site usage information.

Cookies

The LADB web site may use cookies. However, no PII is stored in cookies for any portion of the site.

How we use PII

We may use information in the following ways:

  • For the purposes for which you specifically provided it including, without limitation, to enable us to process and fulfill your subscription or other requests.
  • To send you information about your relationship or transactions with us.
  • To enhance or develop features, products, and services.
  • To trend access to specific resources and features in order to further refine and develop them to meet your needs.
  • WE DO NOT disclose any "non-public" information (in other words, information that is not already publically available) to entities, organizations, or interests not affiliated with the Latin American and Iberian Institute and the University of New Mexico.
  • WE DO NOT disclose PII to third parties, regardless of their affiliation with LADB, with the Latin American and Iberian Institute, or with the University of New Mexico.
  • WE DO NOT use PII for marketting or sales purposes.
  • WE DO provide aggregate information (for instance, we provide several universities statistics pertinent to their use of the LADB web site) to subscribers and other entities within the University of New Mexico.
  • WE DO provide PII to law enforcement agencies in keeping with University of New Mexico Business Policies and Procedures (http://www.unm.edu/~ubppm/ubppmanual/toc.htm), as well as applicable municipal, state, and federal law.

Security and PII Storage

LADB uses industry-standard physical and electronic security policies, protocols, and procedures to safeguard PII and Related Data in our possession against loss, theft and unauthorized use, disclosure or modification.

  • LADB processes credit card transactions through the University of New Mexico Bursar's Office. All credit card transactions are conducted via the UNM Bursar's Office TouchNet website, which is operated and maintained directly by the University of New Mexico. No credit card information is transmitted through or stored on LADB's servers or networks.
  • We retain your information for as long as necessary to permit us to use it for the purposes that we have communicated to you and comply with applicable law or regulations.
  • The LADB website uses an SSL certificate issued by Thawte. All login information (usernames and passwords) is transmitted ONLY over encrypted connections.

Opt-In / Opt-Out

This site allows users to opt in or out of certain types of communications, such as subscriptions from LADB-related publications. Such publications rely on mechanisms provided by this website to circulate information; no information is disclosed in the process of disseminating such circulations to users who opt to receive them. Should users choose to opt-in or opt-out of any such communication, they may do so by contacting LADB using the Contact form.
