Robert Sandels

Robert Sandels has been a staff writer at LADB since March 1995. Mr. Sandels writes on economic and political affairs in Central America for both NotiSur and the Chronicle. He also writes on Cuban economic affairs.

Mr. Sandels received a B.A. in Spanish literature in 1958 from the University of the Americas in Mexico City. He also received an M.A. in American history in 1962 and a Ph.D in Latin American history in 1967 from the University of Oregon.

He taught at Chico State University in California (1964- 1966), at San Francisco State University (1967-1968), and at Quinnipiac College in Connecticut (1968-1988). At Quinnipiac he also served in college administration and curriculum development for several years. He taught courses in European and Latin American history, as well as United States social and cultural history.

In 1988, he took up a career in journalism and public relations during a six-year residence in Mexico (1988-1994). During that time, he worked as the coordinator of international public relations for the Guadalajara International Book Fair and was a reporter and columnist for the English-language weekly newspaper Guadalajara Colony Reporter. At the Colony Reporter, he specialized in Mexican national politics and economic affairs.
